Interview with Mala ~ 5 year old black labrador female

Elizabeth: Mala... can you tell me about dinner today?

Mala: It was yum and over too quickly.

Elizabeth: OK. I'd expect you to say that. What did you have?

Mala: Well we knew it was duck day today and normally our duck frames are stuffed with minced beef but today was TOTALLY different. It caught us ALL off guard.

Elizabeth: How was it different Mala?

Mala: Well it was like FISH!! FISH inside of DUCK!! I don't have any idea where they got such a creature but it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Did the duck eat the fish mum???

Elizabeth: No Mala. I got that fish for you and stuffed it inside the duck frame. It's salmon. You don't get a lot of salmon to eat normally. What did you like about it?

Mala: It was really mushy... it was all smelly and oily and kind of orange! Some of Pilot's fell out of his duck and he didn't notice so I quickly licked it up too!

Elizabeth: Yes, I saw that so I gave Pilot a bit extra. Salmon is really oily so it should make your coat nice and shiny.

Mala: Oh! OH! Can I roll in it? That will make my coat oh so shiny and smell so wonderful... yes... I think the boys will like that! I will smell pretty!

Elizabeth: No Mala... no rolling in it. Just eat it. And it was very good how you cleaned up all the extra dribbles on the floor from everyone. You know that was just a whole salmon put through the mincer til it was in little tiny bits.

Mala: But it was nice and soft mum. No crunchy bones.

Elizabeth: Yes, it's minced quite fine but the bones are still there. You just couldn't tell as they are all small now. So it's like you are eating a whole raw salmon because you got all the good parts.

Mala: So it's kind of like when we find a dead fish on the beach and try to eat it before you catch us?

Elizabeth: Um... no, not really because those fish have started to rot.

Mala: Yeah... I kind of noticed this didn't smell like the beach fish... but it was still really good! Can we have it again... like tomorrow? Can we mum? Can we please?

Elizabeth: Nah... sorry... tomorrow we're having something different. BUT I did have some extra salmon mince left over so I made some little heart treats and you might get one of those in your breakfast in the next couple of days.

Mala: Woohoo!! Yay mum. I like that orange fish stuff. Put it on the menu!

Elizabeth: Will do Mala-Moo!
